Hongfu Company Takes a New Step in Circular Economy
As one of the first pilot units for the circular economy in China, Guizhou Hongfu General Company took significant steps in 2007 by launching or constructing several energy-saving and environmental protection projects, marking a new phase in its development toward a sustainable circular economy.
At the beginning of 2007, the water recovery and technological upgrade project at Zhaofu Phosphate Fertilizer Plant was officially launched. This initiative recycles middle water from the No. 10 rainwater pipeline, along with condensate and cooling water from various equipment, to be used as sulfuric acid circulating water. It also recovers clean water from the sewage workshop for phosphoric acid exhaust gas washing and vacuum pump sealing, as well as for refilling the circulating water system. The project has yielded remarkable results, saving nearly one million yuan in annual costs.
On April 28, a major investment of 120 million yuan was initiated for the recycling of acidic wastewater, which became a demonstration project for the circular economy in Guizhou Province. Acidic wastewater from the phosphate fertilizer plant is transported to a 2.5 million-ton mineral processing plant. This project reduces annual new water consumption by 2.7 million cubic meters, saves 2.7 million tons in wastewater treatment costs, and conserves 50,000 tons of sulfuric acid, significantly contributing to environmental protection and resource conservation. To date, the project has generated over 60 million yuan in economic benefits.
To further implement its circular economy strategy, the company invested more than 80 million yuan to control the slag yard and promote the development of phosphogypsum products. On June 4, a project producing 500,000 square meters of gypsum blocks annually was completed and put into operation. Currently, Hongfu Company is collaborating with Wuhan University of Technology to research phosphogypsum fluidization decomposition technology and equipment, aiming to fundamentally address the utilization of phosphogypsum waste. The goal is to utilize 1 million tons of phosphogypsum slag by 2010.
In October, the glass-ceramic project and a 100,000-ton ultrafine phosphorus slag project were launched. These projects use yellow phosphorus slag and tail gas as main raw materials. Not only do they save resources and protect the environment, but they also turn waste into valuable products, aligning with national industrial policies and expected to be completed and operational by 2008.
Hongfu’s efforts in promoting a circular economy have been widely recognized by national authorities. At the first commendation meeting for the rational development and utilization of mineral resources, the Ministry of Land and Resources awarded Hongfu the "Advanced Mining Enterprise for the Rational Development and Utilization of Mineral Resources," highlighting its leadership in sustainable practices.
