Hongfu Company Takes a New Step in Circular Economy
As one of the first national pilot units for the circular economy, Guizhou Hongfu General Company took significant steps in 2007 by launching or initiating several energy-saving and environmental protection projects, marking a new phase in its circular economy development.
In early 2007, the water recovery and technological upgrading project at Zhaofu Phosphate Fertilizer Plant was officially launched. This initiative recycled middle water from the No. 10 rainwater pipeline, condensate, and cooling water from various devices to be used as sulfuric acid circulating water. It also recovered clean water from the wastewater treatment workshop to serve as washing water for phosphoric acid exhaust gas and sealing water for vacuum pumps, as well as makeup water for the circulating system. The project proved highly effective, saving nearly one million yuan annually in operational costs.
On April 28, a 120-million-yuan investment in acidic wastewater recycling was initiated. This project served as a demonstration of the circular economy in Guizhou Province. Acidic wastewater from the phosphate fertilizer plant was transported to a 2.5-million-ton mineral processing plant, reducing annual new water consumption by 2.7 million tons, cutting wastewater treatment costs by 2.7 million square meters, and saving 50,000 tons of sulfuric acid. This not only protected the environment but also saved resources, with the project already generating over 60 million yuan in benefits.
To further implement the circular economy strategy, the company invested more than 80 million yuan to control slag storage areas and enhance the development of phosphogypsum products. On June 4, a project producing 500,000 square meters of gypsum blocks per year was completed and put into operation. Currently, Hongfu Company is collaborating with Wuhan University of Technology to research phosphogypsum fluidization decomposition technology and equipment, aiming to fundamentally solve the utilization issue of phosphogypsum slag and target the use of 1 million tons of it by 2010. In October, the glass-ceramic project and a 100,000-ton ultrafine phosphorus slag project were launched. These projects utilized yellow phosphorus slag and tail gas as main raw materials, not only conserving resources and protecting the environment but also turning waste into valuable products. They aligned with national industrial policies and were expected to be completed and operational by 2008.
Hongfu’s efforts in developing a circular economy have been widely recognized by national authorities. At the first commendation meeting for the rational use of mineral resources, the Ministry of Land and Resources awarded Hongfu the title of "Advanced Mining Enterprise for the Rational Development and Utilization of Mineral Resources."
