CFD Captain Herbie Johnson Funeral part 2
I just got these photos from Martin Nowak. They’re from the funeral for Chicago Fire Captain Herbert Johnson. The fire trucks were parked near the church. It was really touching to see so many departments from all over the state turn out for this.
First off, there’s a great shot of a whole bunch of fire trucks lined up. You can see Truck 39 in the mix. Frankfort Engine 3 was also there, representing their department. In another photo, you get a view of the rear of Tower 39. There’s also one with Ambulance 8 parked next to Tower 39—it’s such a poignant image. One picture looks down Western, where you can spot two Chicago Fire Department trucks with an American flag hanging between them.
Here are some of the photos Martin shared:

Earlier photos from the event were posted somewhere else online. If you want to check those out first, you can find them HERE. Martin has even more photos available HERE as well.
It was such an emotional day, but seeing everyone come together like this really highlighted how tight-knit the firefighting community is. I’ll never forget the turnout—there must have been hundreds of people there to honor Captain Johnson. Let’s hope these photos capture just a fraction of what it felt like to be there in person.
