Barrington Box Alarm 1-8-13 (part 2)
Hey everyone,
I just got back from the scene of a pretty intense barn fire that broke out earlier today. It was one of those situations where you really see how well all the neighboring departments can work together. I managed to snap some photos while everything was unfolding, so I thought I'd share them here.
First off, there was Algonquin-Lake in the Hills' engine on scene right away. They had their setup down pat, and it was clear they were ready to roll. You can see in the first photo how sharp their rig looks even before any action starts. That’s a Scott Peterson photo for sure—love the clarity of his shots.
Then there's Barrington FD showing up strong. Their Engine 2 came in with multiple lines already deployed. The detail in the photo is fantastic; you can almost feel the tension in the air. Scott definitely caught the intensity of the moment.
What struck me most was how smoothly the water tanker shuttle operation went. Long Grove, East Dundee, Nunda—they all worked like a well-oiled machine. In one shot, you can see Long Grove’s tanker emptying its load while East Dundee’s unit heads back to the fill site. It’s moments like these that remind me why teamwork is everything in firefighting.
There’s also this incredible shot of Palatine’s quint. It’s parked strategically, ready to assist wherever needed. Scott’s photos always manage to capture both the technical precision and the human element of these operations.
One last thing worth mentioning is the smoldering remains of the barn after the flames were finally under control. It’s a stark reminder of why we do what we do. Scott’s image of the aftermath really drives home the seriousness of the situation.
All in all, it was an exhausting but rewarding day. These photos really tell the story of how each department played their part. If anyone wants more details or has questions about specific units, let me know—I’ll be happy to share what I learned.
Take care,
Scott
