Worker trapped in trench in Niles 7-19-14 (pt 3)

Last night, there was an interesting incident involving a technical rescue situation in Niles. It happened on the 8500 block of North Olcott Avenue, near a residential construction site. From what I gathered, a worker got trapped in a trench that collapsed while he was working. The emergency response team from Niles quickly arrived on the scene, and their aerial ladder truck was positioned nearby. There was some kind of hoisting equipment attached to the aerial platform, though it wasn't actively being used when I arrived. I noticed that they had already set up some shoring to stabilize the area and were using a "sewer sucker" to clear the debris around the trapped worker. The rescue operation moved relatively quickly, and within about 90 minutes, the victim was successfully extricated and seemed to be in good condition. I was lucky enough to capture some great photos of the entire process, including the specialized rescue vehicles and the teamwork involved. One of the most impressive sights was the MABAS Division 3 special rescue squad arriving with their specialized equipment. They worked closely with the local firefighters to ensure everything went smoothly. The Glenview fire department also sent over one of their trucks to assist, and their coordination was truly remarkable. I snapped several pictures of the Pierce aerial ladder truck, which played a crucial role in the operation. There was also a towing company on-site, providing additional support by helping to maneuver airbags to lift heavy objects. The firefighters were focused and professional throughout the entire event, and it was inspiring to see how they worked together to resolve the situation efficiently. Overall, it was a reminder of how important these specialized rescue teams are in our community. I’m grateful to have been able to witness such a well-executed operation and to document it for others to see. Here are some of the photos I took during the incident: [Attached are the photos showing the various vehicles and rescue operations] It’s always humbling to see how quickly and effectively emergency responders can handle challenging situations like this one.
