Chicago working fire, 10-25-14

This is from Eric Haak:

Shortly before 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 25th, Tower Ladder 14 was heading down Chicago Avenue when they reported seeing smoke in the area and asked if anyone had called in a fire. They mentioned it looked like it could be an auto or garage fire, and they were trying to locate the source. Shortly after, they came back to confirm that they had found a building fire on Karlov Avenue. I arrived just after the first responding units. It turned out there was a significant fire in the rear of an occupied two-flat. Fortunately, the residents weren’t home at the time.

The scene was pretty intense, with heavy smoke pouring out of the building and flames visible from several windows. Firefighters worked quickly to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to neighboring homes. It’s always a relief when no one is injured, especially in a situation like this where the fire started in an occupied structure. The community was clearly shaken, but everyone seems grateful for the quick response and the efforts of the first responders.
