House fire in Crystal Lake, 10-15-22

On Saturday, October 15th, at 9:35 AM, the Nunda Rural Fire Protection District responded to a reported structure fire on the 2000 block of Route 176. Upon arrival, firefighters found a large two-story abandoned house fully engulfed in flames, just three minutes after the initial call. The scene was intense, with thick smoke and visible flames from the upper levels. Firefighters quickly worked to bring the fire under control, which took approximately 60 minutes. Afterward, they spent an additional two hours performing overhaul and monitoring hotspots to ensure the fire was completely extinguished. Unfortunately, the home is considered a total loss, and no preliminary damage estimates are available at this time. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported among civilians or firefighters during the incident. The Nunda Rural FPD is working closely with the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office to determine the cause of the fire and investigate the circumstances surrounding it.
