Flyability launches Inspector 3.0

April 20, 2021 – Flyability has introduced a groundbreaking new software called Inspector 3.0, which helps inspectors quickly and accurately identify where defects are located during inspections.

Flyability, a global leader in remote internal inspection solutions, is excited to announce the release of Inspector 3.0, a powerful tool that enables inspectors to precisely locate defects found using the Elios 2 drone. After a successful beta phase with over 150 users, the software is now available for all Elios 2 users worldwide.

"Inspector 3.0 marks a major milestone in our mission to eliminate the need for humans to enter dangerous confined spaces," said Patrick Thévoz, CEO of Flyability. "By providing exact location data within an asset, it not only improves inspector efficiency but also enhances the value of inspection results for our clients."

During manual inspections, inspectors typically know exactly where a defect is because they're right there in front of it. However, when using RVI tools like the Elios 2, locating defects becomes more complex due to the lack of GPS or indoor positioning systems.

Without built-in location data, inspectors often have to piece together information from barometric readings, blueprints, maps, and video references—making the process time-consuming and error-prone. But Inspector 3.0 changes that.

The new software allows inspectors to generate a sparse point cloud that visually shows them the exact location of any defect found during an inspection. This is done using data already collected by the Elios 2, without the need for expensive LiDAR equipment or lengthy photogrammetry processing.

"We often know there's damage inside a structure, but not exactly where," said Simon Kumm, a Confined Space Inspections Expert at InspecDrone GmbH. "Inspector 3.0 solves this issue completely."

Accurate location data is essential in maintenance operations. Imagine digging through ten feet of soil only to realize you’re at the wrong spot. That’s why knowing the exact location of a defect can save time, money, and effort.

It also plays a key role in coordinating teams. Scaffolders need to know where to set up, and repair crews must understand the spatial layout of defects before starting work. Inspector 3.0 makes this coordination seamless and precise.

"The localization feature in Inspector 3.0 was exactly what our customers were asking for," said Thibault Chatillon, Innovation and Development Manager at Setec. "Now I can confidently show them where the problem is."
