Cicero house fire 1-15-12

On Sunday evening, I was driving through Cicero when I came across a house fire on 59th Avenue. I quickly pulled over to take in the scene and captured some images with my phone. Here’s what happened: Engine 1 was the first to arrive, and as soon as they got there, thick smoke was already billowing out of the basement. Truck 2 took position in sector 1 and climbed onto the roof to get a better vantage point. Meanwhile, Engine 1 moved swiftly, breaking down the back door and using a 2 1/2-inch hose to extinguish the flames. It all happened so fast, but they managed to get the situation under control pretty quickly. As an eyewitness, I couldn’t help but snap a few pictures. The chaos was intense, but the firefighters were calm and professional throughout the entire process. I’ve included some of the photos I took below so you can see how it looked in the moment. [Attached Image 1: A wide shot of the house engulfed in smoke with Engine 1 in front.] [Attached Image 2: Firefighters working inside the basement, hoses in hand, battling the blaze.] [Attached Image 3: Close-up of the damage around the back door where Engine 1 breached the structure.] [Attached Image 4: The roof of the house, where Truck 2 had positioned themselves earlier.] [Attached Image 5: A final image showing the aftermath, with firefighters still monitoring the area to ensure everything was secure.] It’s always sobering to witness such events, but I’m grateful for the hardworking firefighters who put their lives on the line to keep our community safe. This incident reminded me just how quickly things can spiral out of control, especially when it comes to fires. Let’s hope everyone involved is okay.
