2-Alarm apartment fire in Woodridge, 5-1-14

Around 11:15 AM today, May 1st, 2014, DuComm sent out units from the Darien-Woodridge Fire Protection District to check out a potential apartment building fire at 7723 Woodward Avenue in Woodridge, Illinois. As the fire trucks were on their way, multiple calls started coming in—some mentioning a sparking wire on the roof, while others reported visible flames. The first responding crews arrived at the scene at 11:19 AM and reported heavy smoke. At 11:26 AM, Battalion 89 called for a box alarm due to severe fire spreading through the attic of an apartment building. Command then escalated the situation to a second alarm by 11:30 AM, noting significant fire damage on the third floor and within the attic space of a three-story, 50x125-foot occupied apartment building.
John mentioned that the firefighters were dealing with an intense situation, as the blaze had quickly spread throughout the structure. Looking at the photos he took, you can see the sheer scale of the operation. There’s a Pierce aerial ladder truck parked at the scene, likely being used to access the higher floors. In other images, firefighters are seen pulling out massive lengths of hose, preparing for an extensive firefighting effort. One picture shows teams working together to douse the flames, while another highlights the dramatic plumes of smoke rising into the sky.
