On Monday afternoon, Wheeling firefighters, along with mutual aid crews from nearby towns, responded to a reported incident at 9930 Capitol Drive where a car had crashed into a pond with people trapped inside. Wheeling Chief 2400 was among the first on the scene and reported that the vehicle was perched precariously over a concrete retaining wall, with at least one occupant still inside. Divers and boats were en route, but an urgent call was also made for a tow truck to stabilize the car so firefighters could safely extract the driver.
As more units arrived, several were redirected once the situation became clear. The focus shifted to securing the SUV and retrieving the driver, who turned out to be the only person in the vehicle. The operation required careful coordination between emergency responders and the tow company, ensuring the car was properly stabilized before any rescue efforts began.
