Still & Box Alarm fire in Chicago, 8-2-19

I just got back from capturing some intense scenes near 8739 S. Aberdeen Street on August 2nd, 2019. The fire that broke out in this Chicago bungalow was quite a sight. I managed to snap a few photos that really capture the chaos and power of the flames. The first image shows the fiery inferno raging through the roof, making it almost impossible for anyone to get close. It's one of those moments where you can almost feel the heat radiating off the screen. My friend Tim Olk took these shots, and they really do justice to how devastating the fire was. In another photo, thick plumes of smoke billow into the sky, casting a dark shadow over the neighborhood. It’s a striking reminder of how quickly a fire can spread and how important it is to have a solid emergency plan in place. You can almost hear the distant wail of sirens in the background. There’s also a shot where the flames seem to be dancing across the rooftop, consuming everything in their path. It’s a hauntingly beautiful scene, despite the destruction unfolding before your eyes. Tim’s eye for detail really shines through in this series of images. Finally, there’s a picture that captures the aftermath, showing the charred remains of what was once a home. It’s a poignant reminder of the fragility of structures and the resilience of people who face such disasters. These photos will stick with me for a long time, serving as both a警示 and a testament to the unpredictability of life. Each photo tells its own story, and together they paint a vivid picture of the night the fire swept through this part of the city. It’s always hard to see places we know well go up in flames, but documenting these events is crucial for raising awareness and encouraging better preparation for emergencies.
