Pressure sensor with built-in PSI5 interface

Elmos has announced the release of its second generation pressure sensor chip, the E524.40, with a built-in PSI5 interface. This product is specifically designed for automotive safety applications (side airbags and pedestrian protection systems).

The sensor's performance is not disturbed by the average ambient air pressure, and it can identify sudden changes in air pressure. It can continuously detect and analyze changes in relative air pressure and mean air pressure. The chip complies with the AK-LV29 (VDA) standard specification and is designed in accordance with the "functional safety" requirements of the ISO 26262 standard.

The chip comes with detection and digital signal output capabilities that can identify dynamic pressure changes and transmit the identified signal to the PSI5 interface. In order to monitor the system status and thus meet the requirements of functional safety, the diagnostic data of the chip is also transmitted through the interface part. In addition to this, during the system startup and operation, the chip will also run a self-test function and turn on the diagnostic function. The self-test function detects both the sensor and the chip (analog section, DSP, ROM, and EEPROM).

The integrated EEPROM inside the chip is intended to store calibration data, device IDs, and user programming data. This chip is in a modified SOIC20 package.

For PSI5 network components, Elmos provides interface chips E981.07 and E981.08 (two channels and four channels, respectively). Therefore, a complete system can be easily and quickly configured using the synchronization module.
