Shielded pump selection

Shielded pumps are a type of centrifugal pump that differ from conventional designs in their construction and operation. Unlike traditional pumps, which use a coupling to connect the impeller shaft with the motor shaft, shielded pumps integrate the impeller directly with the motor rotor. This means the impeller rotates along with the motor’s stator inside the pump casing. A small annular gap—approximately 0.7 mm—exists between the stator and rotor. As the pump operates, part of the pumped liquid circulates through this gap, providing essential cooling for the motor. This design leads to a more compact structure, reduced vibration and noise, improved efficiency, lower energy consumption, and no leakage issues. From a safety, hygiene, and energy-saving perspective, shielded pumps are ideal for handling highly corrosive, flammable, explosive, or toxic liquids. The LHP vertical shielded pump developed by Zhejiang Yongjia Blue Sea Pump Co., Ltd. is a specialized unit designed for integration into various systems. It is widely used in industries such as petrochemicals, metallurgy, research institutions, hospitals, schools, hotels, and offices for cold and hot water circulation, water supply, and other media with properties similar to water. What sets the LHP shielded pump apart from standard horizontal pumps is its shielding system. The motor’s stator and rotor are enclosed in a shielding sleeve made of high-strength, corrosion-resistant, non-magnetic stainless steel. These sleeves are welded using special equipment and processes, and helium leak tests are performed to ensure complete leak-proof performance. Additionally, the motor uses graphite sliding bearings treated with epoxy resin, offering excellent corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and heat resistance. Lubrication and cooling grooves on the bearing surfaces help maintain optimal performance under continuous operation. The impeller and rotor are coaxially aligned within the fluid medium, eliminating the need for a mechanical seal. This design completely avoids leakage problems. A circulating cooling system with a filtration device ensures proper lubrication and cooling of the motor, significantly extending its service life. The hydraulic design of the impeller incorporates advanced models, precision casting, and rigorous dynamic balance testing, ensuring high efficiency and stable operation. The LHP series includes 67 models and 184 specifications, with flow rates ranging from 5.5 to 1200 m³/h, head from 5 to 125 m, motor power from 0.55 to 160 kW, speeds of 1410–1430 r/min and 2900 r/min, and diameters from 40 to 300 mm. It can operate at temperatures from -15°C to +95°C, with a maximum working pressure of 1.4 MPa for hot water up to 160°C. The LHP pump has several applications: the general type is suitable for water and similar liquids with a temperature not exceeding 80°C, used in industrial and urban water supply, high-rise building pressurization, irrigation, fire systems, HVAC cycles, and heating/cooling systems. The hot water version is designed for soft water without solid particles, operating at temperatures up to 160°C, commonly used in energy, chemical, paper, hotel, and boiler systems. The corrosion-resistant model is ideal for transporting non-corrosive, low-viscosity liquids in industries like petroleum, chemicals, and food processing. Operating conditions require the medium to be soft, non-condensable, non-flammable, and free of solids or fibers. Normal system pressure should not exceed 1.2 MPa, with an inlet pressure of at least 0.5 MPa. Ambient temperature must remain below 40°C, and relative humidity should not exceed 95%. In summary, the LHP shielded pump represents a reliable and efficient solution for a wide range of industrial and commercial applications, especially where safety, durability, and performance are critical.
