Nanomaterials successfully used in sewing machines
The development of a new wear-resistant, anti-friction composite coating using surface nanocomposite technology has successfully advanced the field of sewing machine engineering. This innovative approach introduces oil-free lubrication materials that are essential for high-speed domestic sewing machines, offering crucial technical support to elevate the overall performance of industrial sewing equipment in China.
Researchers at the Shanghai Nanotechnology and Industrial Development Promotion Center have explored various nanocomposite coatings, including Ni-P-PTFE, Ni-P/Al₂O₃, Ni-P/SiC, Ni-P/PTFE-SiC, and Ni-P/Gr. They conducted detailed studies on the properties and microstructure of these coatings before and after heat treatment. The results showed significant improvements in hardness and wear resistance compared to conventional Ni-P coatings. Notably, the Ni-P/SiC composite coating achieved a hardness of HV1206 after heat treatment, demonstrating superior wear resistance. The addition of Al₂O₃ nanoparticles also lowered the crystallization temperature of the Ni-P/Al₂O₃ coating, enhancing its performance.
Testing on prototype rigs confirmed that these composite coatings significantly improve the friction-reducing and wear-resistant properties of sewing machine parts, while also reducing noise and energy consumption. User testing has shown that the self-lubricating coating materials meet or exceed the standards of similar foreign products, marking a technological leap in China’s sewing machine industry.
This project combines self-lubricating and ceramic particles to optimize the wear and friction resistance of sewing machine components. Compared to traditional methods, this technology operates at lower temperatures, uses easily dispersed nanoparticle solutions, requires simpler equipment, and is easier to implement, leading to substantial cost reductions. The successful implementation of this technology addresses critical friction and wear issues in sewing machine components, especially in the development of oil-free lubrication systems.
By advancing domestic sewing machine technology, this innovation enhances the global competitiveness of Chinese manufacturing. Furthermore, the potential applications of this technology extend beyond sewing machines into industries such as machinery, aerospace, and mold making, promising broader industrial impact.
