"Made in China" cannot be underestimated

In recent years, there has been a growing emphasis on accelerating the development of "Creation in China." The reason for this push is that for many years, China has heavily relied on imported equipment and technologies. Once these technologies are brought in, they are often used without much thought about how to adapt or improve them. As a result, when components need replacement, companies frequently have to seek foreign suppliers, leading to a cycle of import, use, re-import, and reuse. This pattern has prevented many companies from truly absorbing and innovating upon the technology they acquire. Consequently, the technology remains under external control, which has fueled the call for more self-driven innovation. However, the author argues that this challenge is closely tied to the level of "Made in China." Only by elevating the quality and standards of domestic manufacturing can true "Creation in China" be achieved. These two aspects are not separate—they are interdependent and essential to each other. The importance of both "Creation in China" and "Made in China" cannot be overstated. They complement one another, with manufacturing serving as the foundation for innovation. At present, improving the overall manufacturing capabilities within China’s processing and manufacturing industries should be a top priority. During visits to some chemical companies, it became clear that whether the equipment was imported or locally made, the gap was most evident in the manufacturing process—especially in design concepts, process flow, and technical execution. Even with excellent creative ideas or advanced designs, without world-class manufacturing standards, high-quality products cannot be produced. In fact, focusing on enhancing the manufacturing level is also a step toward building the ability to innovate. Without top-tier manufacturing, achieving first-rate creativity is nearly impossible. Recently, during an interview with a heavy machinery company in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu, the author learned that this private enterprise had independently developed its largest 12,000-ton hydraulic press. After nearly a year of R&D, the company not only achieved "Creation in China" but also successfully completed "Made in China." According to them, their creation meant overcoming foreign technology barriers and achieving real innovation. They emphasized that producing the largest hydraulic press in Asia required high-standard manufacturing processes. Without superior manufacturing capabilities, even with detailed design drawings, it would be extremely difficult to produce a qualified large hydraulic press. Therefore, we should not underestimate the value of "Made in China." The manufacturing process often uncovers and solves numerous unforeseen technical challenges—challenges that could hinder the realization of the dream of "Creation in China." Moreover, the manufacturing process itself is a form of creativity. It's not just about assembling parts; it's about refining, improving, and pushing the boundaries of what's possible.
