Chinese pump industry urgently needs to break through R&D bottlenecks

“After 20 years of development, the Chinese water pump industry has achieved notable results, but compared with foreign advanced levels, it can be said to be big but not strong, and the industry pattern of a scattered economy has not changed. This status will not change and will affect the industry. The next step is to develop.” Said Yong Yongbin, president of the China General Machinery Industry Association, at the sixth session of the General Assembly of the Pump Industry Branch of the China General Machinery Industry Association which closed in Changsha a few days ago.
The lack of competitiveness Yan Yongbin pointed out that in the past 20 years, China's pump industry has indeed developed rapidly, especially in the past two years, the total industry volume has continued to increase. According to industry association statistics, in 2007, the pump industry realized a total industrial output value of 40 billion yuan, according to the statistics of the National Bureau of Statistics is 60 billion yuan, but the actual industrial output value should be around 80 billion yuan, while the entire market demand is at 1000 About 100 million yuan.
The reason why statistical data has such a big difference is because a large number of private enterprises have not been counted in. But it is precisely the rapid rise of private enterprises that has injected new vitality into China's pump industry. It is understood that many private enterprises have developed very rapidly. Their sales and industrial output have reached several hundred million yuan, more than ten billion yuan, and even several billion yuan. At the same time, state-owned enterprises have achieved phased results in the two years of restructuring and restructuring. It can be said that the state-owned enterprises in the pump industry have basically completed the transformation and have begun to develop in a diversified direction, and the competitiveness of the industry has continued to increase.
Zhai Yongbin said that despite this, it is still necessary to soberly realize that the Chinese pump industry faces several outstanding problems: First, the industrial structural contradictions have not been fundamentally resolved. The domestic pump manufacturing companies still basically remain at the low-end products, and the phenomenon of repeated manufacturing and repeated construction is serious. Second, the degree of industrial concentration is not high. According to the statistics, there are about 6,000 or so companies in China's pump industry. Some people think that there are about 10,000 pump manufacturers in China. However, such a large pump manufacturing group has so far failed to form large-scale enterprise groups that can lead the development of the industry. This is the sadness of the entire pump industry. Third, the competition among enterprises still stays at the level of price war. Some companies, in order to occupy the market, do not hesitate to participate in competitive bidding at prices below cost. This turbulent market competition pattern leads to the fact that China’s pump industry has gone through 20 years. Development, but never formed a joint force, resulting in the Chinese pump industry's competitiveness in the international community can not be quickly improved.
In terms of localization of major equipment, many key pumps, such as 600,000 kilowatts of supercritical pumps, 1 million kilowatts of ultra-supercritical pumps, 1 million kilowatts of nuclear power pumps, 1 million tons of ethylene pumps, and a large number of pipeline pump , Sewage treatment pumps and a large number of water supply and drainage pumps must be imported from abroad.
The technical personnel are not green and white. “Where is the reason for the lack of competitiveness of China's pump industry? I personally believe that there are both subjective and objective reasons,” said Yan Yongbin.
He pointed out that from a subjective point of view, the Chinese pump industry itself does have some problems: First, the lack of research and development capabilities, independent innovation ability is not strong, the pump industry's technical team has not greatly improved, nor much improvement. In the past, there were still some technical leaders in the pump industry (such as leaders in hydraulic modelling, design, operation, and materials). Now, some of these people have retired, some have left their former jobs, and the pump industry’s R&D team has To the point where the green and yellow are not connected. Secondly, a R&D institution that serves the entire industry has not yet been established, and the R&D capability of the enterprise is not strong. Third, from the tertiary institutions, although Zhejiang University of Technology, Jiangsu University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and China Agricultural University all have the specialty of pumping, what other universities have developed products that are competitive in the market for enterprises? What new materials, processes, and technologies are used in the pump industry? In addition, since the withdrawal of the former Ministry of Machinery, the management functions of the industry have been weakened and these factors have directly affected the development of the industry.
From an objective point of view, there are very few users who currently actively choose domestically-made equipment. Although some users have begun to use domestic equipment, but it is also a last resort. On the one hand, foreign products are expensive. On the other hand, the country has corresponding policies. In such a market environment, only two problems can be explained. First, the development of the pump industry does have "soft weaknesses." Second, the concept of localization has not yet been fully accepted by users.
Judging from the current market development situation, China is in a critical period of industrialization and modernization. There is a huge domestic demand market to support, and the total demand for equipment will still maintain a prosperous period, which will inevitably drive the water pump manufacturing industry. development of. Taking the nuclear power market as an example, a nuclear power plant requires more than 1,200 pumps. Among them, there are more than 120 pumps with nuclear requirements, with a total value of 200 million U.S. dollars. The data shows that the cost of introducing nuclear main pump technology from abroad only costs the total amount equivalent to the annual profit of the entire pump industry in China. By digesting, absorbing, and re-innovating, the nuclear secondary and tertiary pumps manufactured by China are still facing many difficulties. In addition, anti-corrosion pumps and metering pumps used in the petrochemical industry are also difficult to implement on the road to localization.
Enhancing independent innovation capability is the key. Yong Yongbin believes that in order to break the bottleneck of the current development of the pump industry, in addition to calling for more support from the government in terms of policies, financing channels, etc., it is necessary to adjust the existing pump industry development plan. In particular, a thorough and careful investigation and analysis of the pump used in the entire market should be conducted. We should carefully analyze what kind of demand we can't meet in the major equipment field. What types of pumps can be implemented locally? Not used. To address these issues, organize experts in the industry to conduct a "consultation" and propose countermeasures.
Zhai Yongbin said: "Only China's mechanical manufacturing industry is strong. It is impossible for us to get our neck around."
At present, the state strongly advocates the enhancement of independent innovation capabilities. There are three main ways: First, original innovation; second, introduction, digestion, absorption, and innovation; and third, integrated innovation. In the past, some of our companies had experienced painful lessons in order to introduce technology. If the Dalian acid-resistant pump factory was reformed in state-owned enterprises, it had wanted to speed up its development through the introduction of technology, but the result was far from our original intention. Not only did the market hand over to foreign companies, the core technology was still in the hands of others. When you realize this problem, it's easier to think about it. After the joint venture between Shanghai Water Pump Plant and KSB, KSB gradually eroded the shares of the Shanghai Water Pump Plant by increasing the amount of capital and expanding shares, until the brand was completely lost. It is also the introduction of technology. After two years of digestion and absorption, the two types of products, axial compressors and centrifugal compressors, have re-innovated and eventually achieved localization in the field of 5000 cubic meters of blast furnaces, million tons of ethylene, and 600,000 tons of PTA. Obviously, we should still rely mainly on our own strength in product development.
"Then, the pump industry in the end how to improve the ability of independent innovation, I think that as long as we have foreign products and technologies we have, it is enough." Yan Yongbin said.
