Ethylene plant in the old district of Yangzi Petrochemical was completed and put into operation in July 1987. The unit cracking unit adopts the SRT cracking furnace designed by Rums in the mid-1970s. The furnace type is backward and the energy consumption is high. In the actual production process, there are many shortcomings such as poor cracking selectivity, low ethylene yield, high energy consumption, refractory aging, and large heat loss, etc., and there is a big gap between various economic and technical indicators and the advanced level at home and abroad. Moreover, there is no steam superheat system in the original design, and the high-pressure steam must be superheated in the steam superheater. Due to the high energy consumption of the steam superheating furnace and the failure of the superheating furnace, it is very easy to affect the normal production of the ethylene plant. Therefore, domestic ethylene production enterprises such as Qilu, Yanshan, Maoming, etc., as early as the end of the century and the beginning of this century, adopted steam-overheating furnaces through measures such as technological transformation.
In order to reduce the energy consumption of ethylene plants and increase plant capacity, Yangzi Petrochemical invested 460 million yuan in energy-saving retrofitting of ethylene plants from the overhaul of ethylene plants in August last year, including the implementation of energy-saving reforms of five SRT cracking furnaces in the old district. Yangzi Petrochemical has adopted energy-saving technologies such as variable frequency fan technology, furnace tube heat transfer enhancement technology, rare earth furnace tube technology, air preheating technology, and APC advanced control technology, etc., to carry out energy-saving reforms on five cracking furnaces, and at the same time, increased ultra-high pressure steam superheating system. On October 9th, the last cracking furnace in the energy-saving reformation of the ethylene cracking furnace of Yangzi Petrochemical—the old No. 2 cracking furnace was completed and successfully put into use. With the commissioning of the No. 2 furnace, on October 10, the only domestic steam-heating furnace BA-109 furnace of the ethylene plant was also successfully shut down. After the steam superheater was deactivated, about 1500 kg of fuel gas could be saved per hour. At present, Yangzi Petrochemical's olefin plant is actively adopting technological transformations and other measures to send the saved fuel gas to the cracking furnace as fuel for blending to further reduce energy consumption of the unit.
