China successfully masters the world's most advanced thermal power generation technology

According to the data released by relevant Chinese institutions on the 11th, the ultra-supercritical thermal power units with the largest single-unit capacity and the highest operating parameters in China have achieved the international advanced level after six months of successful operation.

As China's first domestically produced million kilowatt ultra-supercritical unit, this indicates that China has successfully mastered the most advanced ultra-supercritical thermal power generation technology in the world today.

The Huaneng Yuhuan Power Plant Project is a national key construction project for the introduction of ultra-supercritical power generation technology in China's “863 Program” to achieve localization-supported projects. It is wholly-owned by China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd., and the first phase will build two 1 million kilowatt ultra-supercritical coals. The unit was completed and put into operation in December 2006, becoming China's first power plant with a single installed capacity of one million kilowatts. According to the Chinese authoritative professional research institute on-site test of the performance indicators of the unit after half a year of operation, all technical performance indicators have reached the design value. Among them, the boiler efficiency is 93.88%, and the coal consumption for power supply is 283.2 g/kWh. The unit's thermal efficiency is as high as 45.4%, reaching the international advanced level. Sulfur dioxide emission concentration is 17.6 mg per cubic meter, which is superior to emission control indicators in developed countries.

"These indicators show that this multi-million-kilowatt ultra-supercritical unit not only has high-performance features, but also greatly improves the energy-saving and environmental protection level of China's coal-fired generating units," said the relevant person in charge of the National Development and Reform Commission of China.

According to authoritative data, coal, as China's main energy resource, accounts for more than 70% of primary energy. Thermal power generation has become the main force in coal combustion consumption. According to data released by Zhang Guobao, deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission, on the 11th, China’s total installed capacity of electric power has exceeded 650 million kilowatts, of which thermal power accounts for nearly 80%.

At the same time, China's current coal consumption per kWh is about 350 grams, which is significantly higher than that of developed countries. According to previously published figures, China's power industry emits 53% of the country's total emissions of sulfur dioxide.

According to estimates, if the thermal efficiency of China's coal-fired power plants reaches 45%, according to the 2006 national thermal power generation, it is equivalent to burning about 200 million tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 540 million tons.

According to the arrangements made by the Chinese government, the power industry has been identified as a key area for energy conservation and pollutant reduction. During the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” period, the power industry will build a number of large-capacity, high-parameter, low-consumption, and low-emission units to replace some of the high-energy-consumption and high-pollution thermal power units.

According to reports, a number of million kilowatt ultra-supercritical unit projects are currently under construction.
