China's deep sea resources exploration and adding tools

The first sea trial of the 6000m AUV "Qianlong No.1" after practical transformation, completed 7 dive, the maximum dive depth of 4159 meters

On May 8th, for nearly one month, the 6,000-meter unmanned cableless submersible (AUV) was developed by the Autonomous Underwater Robot Technology Research Office of the Shenyang Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences. On the 1st, the Nanhai sea trial mission was successfully completed, and the overall goal of the sea trial was achieved. This is the first offshore trial of “Qianlong No.1” after practical transformation, laying a solid foundation for the next step of marine experimental application and ocean investigation.
The 6000-meter AUV practical transformation project is one of the key projects of the 12th Five-Year Plan for the investigation and development of international sea resources. It is under the overall responsibility of the Shenyang Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Second Institute of Acoustics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Harbin Engineering University and the State Oceanic Administration. The Institute of Beihai Standard Measurement Center and other units jointly developed. The main objective of the project is to independently develop a practical deep-sea equipment for deep-sea mineral resources exploration based on past achievements, so as to have more stable and reliable deep sea micro-topography, sediment detection and measurement of marine environmental factors. It provides an effective means for the exploration of marine mineral resources and marine scientific investigations in China. The project was launched in November 2011 with the main purpose of the Pacific Polymetallic Tuberculosis Survey mission, taking into account the exploration and development needs of other deep-sea resources in the Pacific Ocean.
The shape of "Qianlong No.1" is a 4.6-meter-long, 0.8-meter-diameter rotating body with a weight of 1,500 kg. Its maximum working depth is 6,000 meters, the cruising speed is 2 knots, and the maximum endurance is 24 hours. The amount is 30,000. It is equipped with a series of detection equipments such as high-resolution sounding side sweep sonar, shallow formation profiler, camera, temperature and depth gauge and turbidity meter. It can sail autonomously according to the scheduled route, and has automatic avoidance obstacles and online correction. The function of the route can complete the tasks of fine detection of submarine micro-topography, determination of sediment quality, measurement of seabed hydrological parameters and determination of abundance of polymetallic nodules on the seabed.
During the sea trial, “Qianlong No.1” completed 7 submarines in the South China Sea, with a maximum dive depth of 4,159 meters. The structural strength of the submersible, deep water withstand pressure, deep sea leveling, deployment and recycling, and autonomous navigation were carried out. The test and verification of the functions and performances of control, integrated navigation, acoustic detection, optical detection, hydrological parameter measurement, etc., achieve the goal of easy deployment and recovery of the submersible without the dinghy, and obtain the topography and quality of the seabed. A batch of detection data such as hydrology has perfected the operating procedures of the system.
According to the relevant person of the 72nd Research Institute of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, the practical transformation of "Qianlong No.1" was carried out on the basis of the "Qianlong-1" type II ("CR-02") AUV. In 1995, the national "863" project - China's first 6000 m AUV "Qianlong No. 1" type I ("CR-01") was successfully developed, and 702 was responsible for the development of its general layout and carrier system. During the implementation of the project, the first application of the low-resistance line and high-efficiency thruster and the first application of the ankle channel one-way thruster were successful. It successfully observed manganese nodules at the 5,300-meter ocean floor and obtained clear photos. In 2007, China's second 6000 m AUV "CR-02" developed on the basis of "CR-01" AUV passed the acceptance test.
