This is from Larry Shapiro: The Prospect Heights Fire Department received multiple emergency calls on Sunday night (May 3, 2015) regarding a detached garage fire at 240 E. Camp McDonald Road. Flames were visible from Station 9, just a short block away. The three-car, one-and-a-half-story garage was fully engulfed and reportedly contained a 55-gallon drum of racing fuel along with acetylene torches inside. Engine 9 quickly deployed two attack lines, while Tanker 9 set up to supply water to the engine. Engine 39 connected a supply line to a hydrant about a third of a mile away, and Long Grove Tanker 55 arrived to continue supporting Engine 9. The main fire was brought under control relatively fast, and the other tankers were released from the staging area after the situation stabilized. When I arrived on scene, the roof had already collapsed, and there was still some visible fire smoldering inside. It was clear that this was a serious incident, and the firefighters worked quickly and efficiently to prevent the fire from spreading further.
