The Chicago Fire Department was called to a high-priority fire near 119th Street and Avenue O in the Hegewisch neighborhood around 8:40 p.m. on Wednesday. Flames and thick smoke were visible for several blocks, drawing attention from nearby residents. The structure involved was part of an industrial area, and initial reports indicated that the roof had completely collapsed. Later, at about 6:45 a.m. on Thursday, a rekindle was detected, with more smoke rising from the damaged building, prompting additional fire crews to respond.
