Truck collision on US 41 3-8-12 (update)
Jeff Rudolph was on the scene of a semi-truck collision in Lake Bluff yesterday, capturing the aftermath of a serious accident that happened around noon on Route 41 northbound, just north of Illinois Route 176. Two fast-moving semis were involved in the incident. One of them attempted to pass a slower truck that was stuck behind a turning dump truck, but the second truck didn’t see the slower vehicle in time and struck the left rear of the semi.
At one point, the driver of the impacted truck became pinned inside the cab, requiring extensive rescue efforts by emergency responders. Local fire departments from Lake Bluff and Knollwood, along with the Lake Forest ambulance, were quickly dispatched to the scene. Additional units arrived from North Chicago, Great Lakes, and Libertyville, including a fire engine and a tow truck from Ernie's Wrecker Service.
The injured driver was transported to Lake Forest Hospital, while the other driver was not harmed. The accident caused significant damage to both trucks, with firefighters spending nearly an hour to free the trapped driver. Multiple emergency vehicles and tow trucks were seen on the scene, highlighting the severity of the crash.
Photos taken by Jeff Rudolph show the wreckage, the damaged truck cab, and the efforts of first responders working to clear the area. The images also capture the heavy wrecker from Ernie's Wrecker Service and a brush unit from the Lake Bluff Fire Department. The situation was tense, but thanks to the quick response, the injured driver received timely medical attention.
