Recently, Shandong Power Transmission Engineering Technology Research Center was established in Weifang. The center cooperated with Chemnitz University of Technology in Germany to jointly develop an 8-speed automatic transmission (8AT) with independent intellectual property rights.
It is understood that the 8-speed automatic transmission is currently the forefront product of the automotive transmission. Only the 8AT of Japan Aisin has been mass-produced in the world, and it is equipped with a Lexus sedan. In March of this year, ZF Germany announced that its 8AT will be mass-produced in 2009. Can domestic companies develop 8AT and succeed?
What is 8AT?
Liang Jian, executive deputy director of Shandong Power Transmission Engineering Technology Research Center, told reporters that this cooperation with foreign parties to develop 8AT is different from general technology transfer. China not only has complete independent intellectual property rights, but also Chinese technical personnel are responsible for project management and participate in the transmission. The design of the product, the engineering and industrialization of the product are mainly the responsibility of the Chinese personnel.
According to Liang Jian, the 8AT main structure developed this time consists of three planetary rows. With five shifting originals, eight forward gears, one neutral gear and one reverse gear are realized, which is more than the product structure of some international competitors. Simple (ZF 8AT has four planetary rows), smaller size and easier chassis layout. Compared with the 5-speed automatic transmission currently equipped with the domestic Camry, the 8AT axial length is 50mm shorter, the weight is lighter, the efficiency is increased by more than 10%, and the energy is more energy-saving. At present, the 8AT products available in the world are all suitable for rear-wheel drive vehicles, and "our 8AT is developed for front-wheel drive vehicles. At present, most of the domestic cars with displacements below 3.0L are front-wheel drive, so More suitable for the Chinese market."
The 8AT project has been demonstrated by well-known experts from China Gear Professional Association, some universities and research institutions, and is considered to be a project to fill the domestic gap.
The advantage is where the automatic transmission of the car is one of the key auto parts technologies that are not yet fully mastered in China.
Xu Xiangyang, deputy director of the Department of Automotive Engineering at Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, told reporters that at present, almost all independent brand vehicle companies are developing automatic transmissions, and some companies have introduced products, but the structure is relatively simple, the technology is relatively backward, and the shift is smooth and economical. Sex is unsatisfactory.
At present, the automatic transmission developed by domestic enterprises is mostly 4AT, and there is no mature product. Xu Xiangyang believes that the biggest problem lies in the layout plan. "The international 4-speed, 5-speed and 6-speed automatic transmission technologies are relatively mature. The planetary gear structure schemes that can be realized under the existing conditions are basically seized by multinational companies in a patented way. It is difficult for domestic enterprises to find new ones. Program".
Experts believe that Shandong Power Transmission Engineering Technology Research Center started with 8AT, which not only avoids the obstacles of patent infringement of possible layout schemes, but also may catch up with the international level as soon as possible. Liang Jian said: "If you start research and development from the 5-speed or 6-speed automatic transmission, and after the successful development, it will become a backward technology. For the whole vehicle, it will lose its competitiveness. From the current internationally most advanced 8AT started research and development, we can catch up with the international advanced level."
In recent years, the trend of increasing the number of gears in automatic transmissions of automobiles has become very obvious. Xu Xiangyang explained that from the aspect of fuel economy, the fuel consumption of the 4th and 5th automatic transmissions is relatively high, 15%-20% higher than the manual transmission, and will definitely withdraw from the market in the future; the fuel economy and CVT of the 6-speed automatic transmission Compared with DCT, the 8-speed automatic transmission will make the vehicle shift more smoothly, the transmission and engine characteristics are better matched, fuel economy and vehicle emissions will be better than CVT and DCT, and the basic manual transmission is basically the same. quite.
Prospects At present, Shandong Power Transmission Engineering Technology Research Center has completed the 8AT principle design, scheme design and preliminary concept design, and initially has the conditions for prototype trial production, and is entering the engineering research and processing manufacturing process design stage. Liang Jian told reporters that the 8AT prototype is expected to be available in the first half of next year and mass production in 2010. Now we have cooperated with a number of domestic independent brands of vehicle manufacturers, 8AT will be first installed in the B-class car of its own brand.
Li Shengqi, deputy secretary general of China Gear Professional Association, after seeing the 8AT project, believed that the transmission structure was relatively new, and the transmission efficiency was higher from the experimental results. "In the past, the industry generally believed that the hydraulic automatic transmission (AT) has low transmission efficiency, high fuel consumption, and no environmental protection. Now it seems to be re-recognized. Under the new design scheme, AT can also be very fuel-efficient."
Li Shengqi believes that 8AT is still in the research and development stage, and it is too early to conclude. "But from this model of cross-border cooperation and research and development, the foreign side has rich experience and technical accumulation in mechanical transmission, and the possibility of success is still relatively large."
