Like the electronic information industry, China’s electronic components industry has achieved tremendous success in 2007. According to the statistics of the China Electronic Component Industry Association Information Center, in 2007, sales revenue of 3,379 electronic components manufacturing enterprises above designated size in China reached 658.573 billion yuan, an increase of 20.95% over the same period of last year. According to customs statistics, in 2007 China’s total import and export of electronic components was US$79.814 billion, which was a year-on-year increase of 22.73%. Among them, the total foreign exchange earned through exports totaled 39.963 billion U.S. dollars, a year-on-year increase of 26.11%; the total amount of foreign exchange used for import was 39.851 billion yuan, an increase of 19.64% over the same period of last year; and the foreign trade surplus was 112 million U.S. dollars. In terms of industry scale, China’s electronic components have ranked second in the domestic electronics manufacturing industry, second only to the computer manufacturing industry, and exceeded the communications manufacturing industry. According to the statistics of the Department of Economic System Reform and Economic Operations of the Ministry of Information Industry, since 2007, basic industries such as electronic components have maintained rapid development. From January to April of 2008, the growth rate of electronic components manufacturing industry was 31.8%, which exceeded the average growth rate of the industry by 8.7 percentage points. In terms of the proportion, 5762 electronic component manufacturing enterprises above designated size achieved a total revenue of 284.445 billion yuan, accounting for 19.41% of the total industry. From this point of view, the proportion and status of electronic components in the entire industry have increased substantially.
