3-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 11-11-20

Excerpts from abc7chicago.com:

The Chicago Fire Department was called to an intense fire near 119th Street and Avenue O in the Hegewisch neighborhood around 8:40 p.m. on Wednesday. The blaze, which quickly escalated to an extra-alarm level, sent thick plumes of smoke visible for several blocks. The structure, located in an industrial area, suffered severe damage—its roof had completely collapsed. Firefighters worked through the night to contain the flames, but a rekindle was reported just before 6:45 a.m. on Thursday, with more smoke emerging from the damaged building.

From Chicago Fire Department Media on Twitter:

3-11 Alarm at 11909 S Avenue O. Staging area at 116th/Ave O. 2-story ordinary 100x400 warehouse, fire.

Photos from CFD Media show the massive scale of the destruction. The warehouse, once a typical industrial building, now lies in ruins, with only parts of the structure remaining. Residents in the surrounding area were advised to keep windows closed due to the heavy smoke that lingered in the air. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire, but no injuries have been reported so far.
